I:What's your "relationsship" with the festival? (Ilosaarirock)

T: Well talking about festivals, finnish ones, this one's definetly nr1 since it's got the hometown thing and great air..

I:How often have you been on festivals where you haven't been playing yourself?

T: In my whole life I've been on only two festivals, not playing. Once in Tuska to years ago and once in Ilosaarirock like five years ago.

I: It's still Ilosaari where you've been not playing

T: yes that was my first festival and already back then I noticed why the festivals weren't my thing like intimate gigs in clubs, the thing with too many peoples and too much noice isn't really working for me, if I want to see a band I'll find a place where it's a bit more intimate.

I:Okay so the band "Eläkeläisten Tie" has made a cover on the song "Nemo" on their new album. What's your opinion about the song?

T: Well this like one of the things like having Eläkeläiset covering you and getting into Donald Duck like now I've achieved both so what next? *laughs*

I: Was it though to give permission to them to do the cover or was it just done in a sec?

T: Well you didn't have to think twice about it, it's such an honour. There was once a request about making techno/trance version on "Nemo" but I turned them down since it's still about a quite personal and kind of dark song so that didn't feel quite right, but you can't turn Eläkeläiset down. *laugh*

I: Overall, how much do you get requests for covering your songs?

T: Surprisingly many, like in geramny they've just made some sort of like 80s disco version of "Amaranth" which was quite well funny.

I:DPP has sold very well, but it was quite expensive making. How long has it been since you've gained back the costs of making it?

T: Well a while ago it was like equal and now it's on the better side which means continual and next album in sight which is of course great.

I: Have you started thinking about the new songs already?

T: well you think about it like all the time, I've always got my notebook with me and at home you try some stuffs but it's more like just collecting ideas, to get the songs done I need a few months quiet and peace alone at home. I've probably never done a song like in the tourbus or in a hotelroom, I need my own peace for that.

I: When you think about the recent time and Nightwish, it's like really good, album selling well and a lot of people seeing the shows but has it really been all good?

T: It's in one way like really cool when you realise how much you've gained here, still sometimes it just blows you how big the thing has become and sometimes you don't have a single clue about what's going to happen to all of this. Still we've got away quite good, of course there's been some bad stuff, but during the years you've learned to deal with it, still the critics do hurt especially for Anette, since she hasn't had the time to get used to it.

I: Her style has been critisised lately. Have you guys been forced to keep that in mind within your clothing?

T: We've never done that and probaly won't do it. Of course you look yourself in the mirror like how you look on stage but that has like always been the thing for Nightwish like doing it all really weirdly and differently, if you think about the music as well, like there's no sence in it, it's a bit of everything. Like maybe the style just fits to that. This is a thing that I've never really thought of, dunno if I should *laugh*

I: You've lately been producing Indicas new album. How's other producing, have you received many requests?

T: Well it's quite different especially from other countries there has been many requests which of course is flattering, but I've noticed trough this Indica thing that producing really isn't what I do best, I'm mostly a songwriter and a musician.

I: What is there that isn't working?

T: With Indica it works really well, like everyone's a fan of each other so you can really discuss reasonably and it was a totally painless process and the album ended up being really good. Like telling people that "that doesn't work" and "you should do it differently" just doesn't feel right for me

I: So how will the rest of the summer for Nightwish be?

T: After Ilosaari we have like our second summer vacation for one and a half week and it'll be meeting old friends and have like sushi nights and swimming and water skiing and everything nice. Then in a couple of weeks the festivals continue, I think we've got 6-8 to go and then we'll be headed to the states in August for a month again.

I: When you've got vacation and need to see some old friends and so on, do you have to make like schedules for that as well?

T: Well it is good to have some other life as well. But you noticed that the first 9 months were quite though, we did almost as many shows as on the whole "Once- tour", then we had the new singer and the pressures so on the last week you really saw how everyone including the crew was quite exhausted. Like seasoning this in the right way, that's the like most important thing.

I: So one day I saw the video for "the Islander" which is really great, and that gave me the thought of how would a Nightwish movie be?

T: Well, we've had so much dramatic so I guess you would have a drama film with all the conflicts and stuff but I think this story is at it's beginning so we'll see in maybe 10 years or so.

I: I was thinking who would be playing you, Johnny Depp or?

T: Well hmm it's been like discussed before but if we stick to the finnish one's I think someone like Jasper Pääkkönen could do it.
